Valley Forge elm, age 13 years, located at Meeting House Hill in Acton, MA

(Photograph by Todd Carley, July 16, 2011)

The tree shown in this photograph is a confirmed survivor of severe Dutch elm disease, as described in my article, Valley Forge Elm Proves Itself in Acton, MA. It began showing wilt symptoms in June of 2006 and looked quite sick in 2007, but in 2008 it showed no symptoms whatsoever. Here it is in 2011, fully recovered and thriving.
